HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A career-high 19 points by senior guard Gaby Gilmore gave Radford its first Big South win of the season in a 61-45 victory over Coastal Carolina, Tuesday night inside the Dedmon Center.
  • RU's win extended its home winning streak to 13 straight, but was its first home win versus Coastal since Jan. 17, 2013.
  • Radford raced out to a 14-2 lead to open the contest, capped by back-to-back layups by Jayda Worthy and Gilmore as the Highlanders ended the first quarter with a 22-7 advantage.
  • Fueling Radford's hot start was its defense, which held Coastal to 15-percent shooting (3-20) over the first 16 minutes of the game.
  • A deep 3-pointer from Jordan Toohey gave the Highlanders a 25-point lead (38-13) with 3:50 remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Chanticleers closed the second quarter on a 11-0 run, cutting their deficit to 38-24 at the break.
  • Radford's lead never dipped below 14 points in the second half.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Gaby Gilmore's career high came on 9 of 15 shooting, setting career marks in points and made field goals.

  • Radford shot a blistering 48 percent in the win and now stands at 4-4 on the season when shooting over 40 percent.

  • The four assists are a season high for Rivers. She also matched her season high in blocks with four.

  • Ced Gibson was the lone Chanticleer in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

QUOTABLE
  • "As a head coach, you're always a little weary about how your first game after Christmas is going to be. I thought we came in with good energy. We had talked about wanting to start fast. I thought our first quarter and a half was pretty good. We had good energy and we were guarding, which helped us build a pretty good lead. Then we coasted a little bit. But [Coastal] is averaging over 70 points a game, and we held them to 45 tonight. Our defense continues to be our strength and that's something we've got to continue to buy into moving forward. This was a solid, well-rounded effort." ~ Radford head coach, Mike McGuire
