  • Records: Radford (8-7, 1-2) | High Point (10-4, 3-0)
  • Location: Millis Center | High Point, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Radford was unable to make it four straight wins on High Point's homecourt, as the Panthers took control in the first half and pulled away to a 77-60 Big South Conference men's basketball victory Thursday night.
  • High Point used a 10-0 run midway through the opening stanza to take the lead and stayed in front the rest of the game.
  • The Highlanders were within five at halftime, but HPU dominated the second half behind 62 percent shooting.
  • RU struggled to 35 percent shooting in the game and committed 16 turnovers, finishing with its second-lowest point total of the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cameron Jones scored a game-high 18 points for Radford. He was 6 of 14 from the field, including 4 of 9 on 3-pointers, However, after making his first three attempts from behind the arc in the game's opening six and half minutes, he misfired on five of his last six.
  • Brandon Holcomb scored 11 points and had team-high totals of eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Nine of his points and seven of his rebounds came in the first half to keep the Highlanders in it.
  • Justin Cousin posted a career high in points for the second straight game, tallying eight of his 12 in the second half.
  • During High Point's key run over a span of 4:30 midway through the first half that made it 26-17, Radford was 0 for 8 shooting with two turnovers, helping the Panthers get out in transition, capping the spurt with three straight layups.
  • Holcomb helped the Highlanders battle back, totaling five points, four rebounds and a block as they outscored the Panthers 10-5 to get within two late in the period.
  • However, the second half started poorly for RU as it made just two field goals over the first eight minutes, while committing seven turnovers, enabling High Point to build a 54-36 cushion by the second media timeout.
  • The Panthers, who entered the game 14th in the nation in 3-point percentage, hit 5 of 8 attempts in the second half after going just 2 of 8 in the opening period.
  • HPU also dominated in the paint, outscoring Radford 40-20 even though RU had a slight 37-35 rebounding edge.
  • Much of the damage came in the open floor as the Panthers totaled 16 fast-break points and converted the Highlanders' 16 turnovers into 19 points.
  • The Higlanders pulled down 12 offensive rebounds in the opening half, but had just two in the second.
  • John Brown scored 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting for High Point. Jorge Perez-Laham added 14 points off the bench, while Anthony Lindauer tallied 13, including three 3-pointers.
  • HPU improved to 3-0 in conference play for the first time since 2006-07 and defeated RU at home for the first time since 2012.

QUOTABLE
  • "From the beginning of the game I felt we were a little out of sorts and I think a lot of it is credited to them. They were very intense with their defense and really caused us to be sloppy on the offensive end and we never really got into any kind of offensive rhythm throughout the game. We did a pretty good job defensively in the first half and in the second half it was like one thing led to another. Because we weren't scoring the ball and things weren't going down on one end, it kind of snowballed on the other end and they were able to run out a litte bit on us." ~ Radford head coach Mike Jones

UP NEXT
