
WILLIAMSON, VEATCH PROPEL HIGHLANDERS AT VT CHALLENGE WITH PERSONAL BESTS

RESULTS
BLACKSBURG, Va. ---- Teresa Williamson led the Radford track and field team on Friday at the Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg with a second-place finish in the mile, running a 4:50.11.
Williamson's 4:50.11 in the mile not only earned her second-place honors, but also set a new personal record. Her previous fastest mile performance was a 4:50.38 at the 2014 Big South Indoor Championships at the Rector Fieldhouse. Madeline Thomas and Courtney Burton also competed in the event, turning in times of 5:23.47 and 5:31.20, respectively.
Katie Hickey edged out Williamson in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.03 to take fifth place. Williamson finished in sixth with a 2:17.62.
In the weight throw, Ashlen Veatch had a career night with a distance of 17.93m (58-10.00). Veatch's previous record was 17.14m (56-03.00) at the Akron Invite on Feb. 7, 2014. Naihla Rose-Delia and Emmalene Hale rounded out the top 10, finishing in ninth with a 15.32m (50-03.25) and 10th with a 14.80m (48-06.75), both season bests respectively.
In the 1,000-meter run, a trio of freshmen represented the Highlanders. Malina Richardson led the way with a sixth-place finish, crossing the line in 3:02.68. Denaya Wolterding turned in a 3:09.28 for eighth, while Chandra Goodson took ninth in 3:09.85.
Danyelle McDaniel recorded Radford's first top-five finish of the night, turning in a 1:38.7 in the 600 meters. Callie O'Connell placed eighth with a 1:44.52 and Ckareekeea Branch ran a 1:45.86.
Jessica Shelton turned in the Red and White's top time in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.95. Shelton's effort was the best by a Highlander this indoor season and the only time to break the nine-second barrier.
In the triple jump, Jamiecka Baker recorded a season-best leap of 11.44m (37-06.5). Baker's previous best this season came last weekend at the Chipotle Marshall Invite with a mark of 11.36m (37-03.25).
Reanna Hamm closed out Radford's racing on Friday night in the 200-meter dash. Hamm gave the Highlanders yet another top-15 finish, coming in 13th with a 26.32. Lora Wilson finished in 27.43.
The VT Challenge wraps up on Saturday, beginning with the high jump at 11 a.m. and the 5,000-meter run at 1 p.m.
