FOREST CITY, N.C. - Radford won its third straight game and completed a series sweep over Binghamton with an 8-3 win Sunday at McNair Field. The Highlanders opened a 7-0 lead the 5.5 innings and gave starter Mitchell MacKeith (1-1) the offensive support he needed to earn his first win of the season. Josh Reavis drove in a career high six runs with three hits, including two doubles that scored five runs in back-to-back innings in the fifth and sixth.
Hunter Higgerson also hit his first home run of the season and 10th of his career, a solo shot in the fourth to give RU a 2-0 lead. Reavis had given the Highlanders the first run of the game in the previous inning with an RBI single to plate Josh Gardiner, who scored three times on the afternoon.
MacKeith went 5.0 innings in his third start of the season allowing two runs on five hits. Jeff Maxwell, Nygeal Andrews, Daniel Bridgeman, and Ryan Meisinger each worked an inning in relief to close out the game. It was a non-save opportunity for Meisinger. In all, Highlander pitchers struck out nine and walked just two on the day.
"We played really well today," RU head coach Joe Raccuia said. "Once again, we filled up the strike zone and attacked their hitters. We had some big at bats, especially in the middle of the order that produced multiple runs. All-in-all, it was a solid weekend in all facets under some below average conditions."
Radford is scheduled to travel Tuesday to East Tennessee State for a 3:00 p.m. start.
