MEN’S GOLF TIED FOR FIFTH FOLLOWING FIRST ROUND OF DAVIDSON COLLEGE INVITATIONAL

ROUND 1

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Led by two of its golfers in the top 20, the Radford men's golf team carded a 298 in Monday's first round of the Davidson College Invitational hosted by the Wildcats at the par 72, 7,208-yard River Run Country Club.

Ryan Rettberg and Conner Hayden are out in front for the Highlanders, notching a pair of 73s to tie for 13^th. Rettberg played a clean round, carding 15 pars, two bogeys and one birdie.

On the other hand, Hayden's round was a bit of a roller coaster. The junior had seven bogeys, including four on the back nine. However, the Chilhowie, Va., native countered with four birdies and an eagle to end the day at 1-over-par. Hayden's eagle came at the par-4 10^th hole where he holed out with a wedge.

Making his third tournament of the season, Conner Lewis charted a 75 and is tied for 32^nd. The Davidson, N.C., native registered two birdies, including one on the back nine where he shot a 1-under-par 35. Tanner Carbaugh (77) and Myles Creighton (79) are tied for 46^th and 56^th, respectively.

Radford is tied for fifth in the team standings with Marshall at 298. Of the four teams RU is trailing, two are ranked inside the top 65 in the country. No. 49 Chattanooga tops the 12-team field at even-par 288, one shot clear of No. 65 Charlotte. Wofford is third at 294 and Gardner-Webb is fourth at 297, one stroke clear of the Highlanders and the Thundering Herd.

Victor Wiggins of Charlotte has a one-shot edge on the 73-golfer field behind his 2-under-par 70. There is a four-way tie for second at 1-under-par 71.

RU is paired with Gardner-Webb and Marshall for Tuesday's final round, which gets underway at 9:15 a.m. for the trio.
