KEEN'S WALKOFF WINS IT FOR RU IN 10TH

|

RADFORD, Va. - Brad Keen lifted a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence for a three-run, walkoff home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday night at RU Baseball Field to lead Radford (12-11) to a 7-4 win over East Tennessee State (11-11). The Highlanders won for the fifth time in seven games with Keen's offensive heroics and a stellar relief performance by Ryan Meisinger (2-0), who earned the victory.

The two-out game-winner came off ETSU's seventh pitcher of the night, Peyton Taylor (0-1), who suffered the loss in his only inning of work. Hunter Higgerson led off the 10th with a double and was sac bunted to third by Danny Hrbek. Aaron Scoville was hit by a pitch before Josh Reavis popped up to set the stage for Keen's second career home run.

Meisinger earned the victory by recording all six outs via the strikeout in 2.0 innings. He fanned six of the seven batters he faced allowing a base on balls in the top of the 10th. He threw just 29 pitches.

Radford led by single runs on three occasions only to allow the Buccaneers to tie the game each time and eventually take the lead in the sixth. RU scored first in the first on a Higgerson infield single after Josh Gardiner led off the game for the Highlander offense with a double. ETSU bounced back in the top of the second to tie it.

Jordan Taylor hit his first career triple in the bottom of the second and scored on a Keen sac fly to give RU a 2-1 lead. Again, the Bucs responded right away in the next half inning to knot the score.

Chris Coia, who had his second 4-4 game at the plate in less than a week, doubled home another run in the fourth to give RU a 3-2 lead, and yet again the Highlanders could not hold it. ETSU scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-3 lead. A Coia run-scoring single in the sixth tied it and neither team would score again until Keen's knock in extra innings.

The win avenges a 9-1 loss earlier in the season at Johnson City for the Highlanders.

Coia's four-hit night led a 14-hit attack for RU. Higgerson finished 3-5 and Taylor 2-3 as Highlanders to record multiple hits. Keen drove in a career high four runs on the evening.

Radford travels to Buies Creek, N.C. on Friday for the first of a three-game Big South series against Campbell.
