STRONG SECOND ROUND KEEPS MEN’S GOLF IN HUNT AT BASH AT THE BEACH

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On the strength of a 3-under-par 281 in Monday afternoon's second round, the Radford men's golf team remained in contention at the Bash at the Beach. Appalachian State is hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament at The Surf Golf and Beach Club (par 71, 6,741 yards).

Led by three Highlanders recording par-or-better rounds in the afternoon, RU sits in fourth place at 570 (289-281) through 36 holes of play. James Madison was the only team in the 17-team field to shoot under-par in both rounds. The Dukes (562) have a six-shot advantage over Gardner-Webb (568) with 18 holes to go. West Georgia (569) is in third place, one shot clear of Radford.

One of the Highlanders in red figures is Conner Hayden, who is tied for the lead at 6-under-par 136 (69-67). The Chilhowie, Va., native logged an impressive nine birdies on the day, including five in the second round en route to his season-best ledger of 4-under-par 67. Hayden, who is tied with Ryan Cole of JMU, is gunning for his second individual title as a Highlander.

Ryan Rettberg is also below par through 36 holes for the first time this season. The redshirt senior is tied for eighth at 2-under-par 140 (72-68). Rettberg carded seven birdies, including four on his second 18.

Nick Brediger is tied for 24^th at 2-over-par 144 (73-71). The Roanoke, Va., native overcame a roller coaster first round to post an even-par 71 in the afternoon. He charted a team-best 16 pars in his second round.

Rounding out the RU lineup is Callum Cochrane (150), who is tied for 55^th, and Conner Lewis (151), who is tied for 62^nd.

Tuesday's final round gets underway at 9 a.m.
