MEN’S GOLF IN SIXTH AT LIBERTY SPRING INVITATIONAL



ROUNDS 1-2

AMHERST, Va. – The Radford men's golf team carded a pair of 291s and is in sixth place following Friday's first and second rounds of the Liberty Spring Invitational hosted by the Flames at the par 72, 7,059-yard Poplar Grove Golf Course.
 
Tenth-ranked Oklahoma tops the 18-team field at 14-under-par 562 (283-279). North Carolina, which is ranked No. 19 in the nation, fired a 9-under-par 567 (282-285) and is in second place. Lipscomb (574), Liberty (575) and Northern Illinois (577) round out the Top 5. The Highlanders are just five strokes behind NIU.
 
Tanner Carbaugh cruised around the links for an even-par 144 (72-72), which is tied for 16th. The senior collected eight birdies on the day, including five in the afternoon's second round. Carbaugh is tied for the best par-3 scoring ledger in the tournament at 1-under-par.
 
On the strength of seven birdies, Nick Brediger returned a 1-over-par 145 (72-73) to the clubhouse. The Roanoke, Va., native is tied for 22nd with 18 holes to go. Brediger is an impressive 4-under-par in par-5 scoring, which is tied for sixth in the field.
 
Ryan Rettberg rallied in the afternoon to post a 2-over-par 146 (74-72), which is tied for 30th. The redshirt senior's second round was highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 11th hole. He was one of nine golfers in the field to record an eagle on the day.
 
Conner Hayden is tied for 34th at 3-over-par 147 (73-74). The Chilhowie, Va., native made a living on the back nine, charting seven of his eight birdies over that stretch. Fueled by a hot start, Myles Creighton sits in a tie for 40th at 149 (74-75). He birdied three of his opening six holes during the morning's first round.
 
William Register of North Carolina and Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb are tied for the overnight lead at 7-under-par 137. The duo leads by three shots over four golfers tied for third place.
 
Radford, Northern Illinois and Liberty are paired together for Saturday's final round, which gets underway at 8:45 a.m. for the group.
