MEN’S GOLF MOVES UP A SPOT TO CONCLUDE LIBERTY SPRING INVITATIONAL

ROUND 3

AMHERST, Va. –
On a day where many teams struggled with windy conditions, the Radford men's golf team was able to salvage a 302 and finish in a tie for fifth place following Saturday's final round of the Liberty Spring Invitational hosted by the Flames at the par 72, 7,059-yard Poplar Grove Golf Course.

The Highlanders were able to move up a spot in the team standings by tying Campbell at 884. Tenth-ranked Oklahoma ran away with the team title, posting a 15-shot victory over 19th-ranked North Carolina. The Sooners fired an impressive 17-under-par 847 (283-279-285). They were the only team in the 18-team field to shoot in red figures all three rounds. UNC finished at 862, followed by Liberty (876) and Lipscomb (878).

Nick Brediger fueled the Highlanders' charge by tying for 13th at 1-over-par 217 (72-73-72). The Roanoke, Va., native tied for third in par-5 scoring, going 5-under-par. Brediger logged four birdies during his final 18 holes. He finished with a team-high 11 over the two-day tournament.

Also notching a Top-20 performance was Tanner Carbaugh, who tied for 16th at 218 (72-72-74). The senior tied for the best par-3 scoring average in the field at even par.

Ryan Rettberg tied for 31st at 224 (75-72-77), while Conner Hayden tied for 40th at 226 (73-74-79). Myles Creighton rounded out the RU lineup in a tie for 62nd at 232 (74-75-83).

Liberty's Mathieu Fenasse captured medalist honors by prevailing in a six-way playoff. Fenasse was the lone golfer in the group to birdie the par-4 second hole after all six parred the par-4 opening hole. All six golfers concluded the tournament at 3-under-par 213.

The Highlanders are back in action April 20-22 when they compete in the 2015 Big South Men's Golf Championship held at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
