GARDINER NAMED BIG SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RADFORD, Va. ---- Fueled by a 11 hits, five for extra bases, Radford senior second baseman Josh Gardiner has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, announced the league office Monday.

Gardiner went 11-for-19 (.579) with seven runs, seven stolen bases, four doubles, three RBI and one home run in the Highlanders' 4-1 week.

The Culpeper, Va., native recorded four multi-hit games and stole two bases in three of the five contests. Gardiner doubled and scored at least one run in four games. In a 15-7 win at Virginia Tech on April 6, the leadoff man recorded two hits, scored twice, doubled home a run and swiped two bags. He was 4-for-4 with a double and two more stolen bases in a win against Winthrop on April 10. Gardiner led Radford at the plate in the week's finale, notching a double and home run in what would ultimately snap Radford's 12-game win streak.

Gardiner's weekly league honor is the first for the Highlanders this season.
