ROUND 1
NINETY SIX, S.C. – Heavy rain forced league officials to suspend Sunday's first round of the Big South Men's Golf Championship at The Patriot Golf Club (par 72, 7,120 yards). Radford is currently in second place, two strokes behind Coastal Carolina.
Competition commenced with a 1 p.m. shotgun start after a rain delay pushed back the original 8:30 a.m. start. Teams were paired in twosomes in an effort to speed up play.
Each Highlander played at least eight holes in their opening round. Nick Brediger leads the way for RU at 2-under-par. He has three birdies through his first nine holes.
Tanner Carbaugh and Myles Creighton join Brediger in red figures at 1-under-par. Like Brediger, Carbaugh has recorded three birdies already in his round. He ended the day with a birdie at the par-3 15th. Creighton was also on a hot streak before play was halted. The freshman went birdie-birdie at holes 14 and 15 to dip into red figures through eight holes.
Conner Hayden and Ryan Rettberg are also eight holes into their opening 18. Hayden is even-par, while Rettberg is 1-over-par.
Radford, which is 4-under-par, is one of six teams in red figures on the team leaderboard. Coastal Carolina is 6-under-par, two shots clear of the Highlanders. Liberty, Winthrop and Campbell are tied for third at 3-under-par.
Coastal's Ben Wheeler and Longwood's Alex O'Dell share the lead in the individual race at 3-under-par.
First-round play is scheduled to resume Monday at 10 a.m., with the second round to immediately follow.
