BREDIGER, MEN’S GOLF SET PROGRAM RECORDS AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

ROUND 3

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Behind the best 54-hole ledger ever recorded by a Highlander at the Big South Men's Golf Championship, sophomore Nick Brediger tied for seventh to lead Radford in the three-day tournament, which ended Tuesday at The Patriot Golf Club (par 72, 7,120 yards).

Brediger's 4-under-par 212 (68-71-73) supplants Aaron Summers' 1-under-par 215, which was shot at the 2005 championship. The Roanoke, Va., native finished with 12 birdies over his three rounds.

As a team, the Highlanders placed eighth by carding an 885 (284-297-304), which is RU's best 54-hole ledger at a conference championship in program history. The Highlanders' 885 tops the 887 they carded in 2014 at the same venue. Radford's opening score of 284 was its best round ever at the conference championship.

Despite improving their program record from a year ago, the Highlanders struggled to keep pace with the rest of the field, which took advantage of the prime scoring conditions.

On the strength of a tournament-best, 10-under-par 278 in the final round, Charleston Southern was able to climb four spots and capture its first Big South title since 2003. Fueling the Buccaneers' charge was individual medalist R.J. Keur, who fired an 8-under-par 208 (70-69-69). Keur was one of four CSU golfers to shoot in red figures for the final round.

Like the Buccaneers, Campbell surged ahead four places to take runner-up honors. The Camels recorded an 859 (286-290-283). Winthrop, which entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed, finished third at 861 (287-286-288). Coastal Carolina (864) ended in fourth place, followed by Liberty (865), Gardner-Webb (870) and Presbyterian College (879). Radford concluded six shots behind PC.

Playing in his first conference championship, Myles Creighton delivered a fine showing by tying for 31st. The freshman logged a 224 (72-77-75), which ranked second on the team. Conner Hayden and Tanner Carbaugh both tallied a 227 to tie for 35th, while Ryan Rettberg tied for 38th at 228.

Following the conclusion of the final round, coaches voted on the conference postseason honors. Hayden and Rettberg headlined the Highlanders' recognition by earning all-conference accolades. Carbaugh was named to the all-academic team for the third straight season.
