RADFORD, Va. - On Military Appreciation Night, Radford (29-14) scored three times in the decisive seventh inning, the go-ahead runs plating on a two-run double by Hunter Higgerson as the Highlanders swept the season series from VMI, 6-3 on Tuesday night. The win was the sixth straight over non-Big South foes for the Highlanders and snapped a three-game winning streak for the Keydets (15-23).

"We put ourselves in position to win the back third of the game. The bullpen did a good job, and we got some big swings from the middle of our lineup," Radford head coach Joe Raccuia said. "We beat a team tonight that has been playing some really good baseball."

VMI opened the scoring in the first recording three base hits off RU starter, Tyler Swarmer. Tyler Tharp singled home a run to give the visitors a 1-0 lead before Radford had come to the plate. The Highlanders responded to take the lead in the second. After Higgerson singled and Danny Hrbek doubled to open the inning, Trevor Riggs tied the game with a sac fly, and Brad Keen gave RU a 2-1 lead with an RBI single.

The Keydets took the lead again with a pair of runs in the fourth. Will Connerly doubled and eventually scored on a passed ball, and Jordan Tarsovich drove in a run with an infield single to give VMI a 3-2 lead. The Highlanders tied it in the fifth on a Higgerson sac fly set up by a single by Josh Gardiner and a double by Shane Johnsonbaugh.

Kyle Palmer (1-0) entered the game for Swarmer in the sixth and gave up just two hits in 2.0 innings of work to earn his first victory of the season. Daniel Bridgeman gave up a hit and a walk in the eighth, but got a double play from Higgerson when he snagged a line drive and threw to first for the second out. Ryan Meisinger earned his 12th save of the season with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.

After Higgerson gave RU the lead for good in the seventh, Aaron Scoville's pinch-hit bunt single drove in the final run of the night. Higgerson (2-4), Johnsonbaugh (2-4), and Keen (2-4) each collected multiple hits for RU.

Jonathan Kelley (0-2) took the loss for VMI allowing three runs on two hits without recording an out in the seventh. He was one of six Keydet pitchers on the night.

Radford defeated the Keydets three weeks ago, 6-2 in Lexington. The Highlanders are now 15 games above .500 for the second time this season, which is a school record. RU has won 22 of its last 27 games.

The Highlanders play host to West Virginia on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
