HRBEK’S WALKOFF, MEISINGER's STRIKEOUTS CLINCH SERIES IN 11-INNING THRILLER

RADFORD, Va. ---- Danny Hrbek's fourth hit of the outing came in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 11th inning to clinch the series for Radford, 5-4, against Charleston Southern on Saturday at the Radford Baseball Stadium.

"Good, solid baseball game all the way around," said head coach Joe Raccuia. "Both sides took good at bats, and their guy was good on the mound today. We obviously have a little bit of mojo going with our team, and (Brad) Keen had big at bat eighth and (Danny) Hrbek had the huge hit with the walk off. (Zack) Ridgely and (Ryan) Meisinger were outstanding out of the bullpen. We won the game for Meisinger, and he was going to go as long as it took."

Hrbek led No. 25 Radford with a season-high four hits, none bigger than his walk-off single in the 11th. The Effort, Pa., native finished with an RBI and two runs. Aaron Scoville, Shane Johnsonbaugh and Patrick Marshall also had multi-hit days, with Scoville notching three and Johnsonbaugh and Marshall with two hits a piece. Johnsonbaugh and Trevor Riggs cranked early home runs, bringing their season tallies to three each.

Dylan Nelson was giving the ball to start the game, pitching five innings. Nelson surrendered four runs on seven hits in the outing. Zack Ridgely came in as relief in the sixth, throwing three innings and giving up no runs. Ryan Meisinger earned the win as he struck out five batters and held the Bucs to one hit on three innings.

After two scoreless innings, Radford (35-14, 16-4 BSC) found itself in the bottom of the 11th inning with two on base and no outs. The Bucs made a change on the mound after consecutive walks put the two Highlanders on base. Following a strikeout by Hunter Higgerson, Hrbek connected once again, finding a hole through the right side to score Josh Reavis and clinch the series for the Red and White.

Charleston Southern (22-24, 9-11 BSC) struck early in the top of the first with a pair of runs. Three consecutive singles to open the frame brought the first run across before a fielder's choice off the bat of Chase Shelton scored Sam Remick.

The Highlanders cut into the deficit in the home side of the frame on a homer by Johnsonbaugh, his second in the past three games.

Radford took its first lead of the contest in the fourth inning on its second long ball of the afternoon. Riggs connected on a pitch and sent it over the wall in left-centerfield to score Hrbek, who led off the inning with a single to left field.

The Bucs regained control of the game in the fifth, taking a 4-3 edge. Ryan Maksim opened the side with a single to the shortstop before Nate Blanchard walked to put two on base. The runners moved into scoring position on a sac bunt. An ensuing groundout and single to third put two tallies on the board.

Celebrating senior day, fourth-year Highlander Brad Keen knotted the game at 4-4 in the eighth with a single through the left side to score Hrbek. Hrbek led off the inning with his third hit of the game and moved to second on a single by Scoville to centerfield.

Radford recognized their seven seniors today, Aaron Scoville, Patrick Marshall, Hunter Higgerson, Brad Keen, Jeff Maxwell, Josh Reavis and Josh Gardiner. The group led the Red and White to 126 wins in their tenure as Highlanders and to the program's first national ranking.

Radford and Charleston Southern conclude the series on Sunday with the first pitch being thrown out at 2 p.m. The matchup will be streamed on the Big South Network.
