Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WOMEN’S SOCCER NOTCHES 1-0 ROAD VICTORY

BOONE, N.C. – The Radford women's soccer team's first road trip of the season was a successful one as the Highlanders came away with a 1-0 shutout victory over host Appalachian State Friday night.

Junior midfielder Hannah Duff tallied the game's lone goal in the 31st minute and the Radford defense made it stand up, led by a 10-save performance by sophomore goalkeeper Katie McCormick.

The Highlanders improved to 2-1 on the season and head coach Ben Sohrabi claimed his 199th career victory as the program's leader.

"It was a big win on the road," Sohrabi said. "It was a very intense, physical set piece-driven game and we defended well and got the shutout. It was another good team effort and great to get a clean sheet."

Appalachian State (1-1) owned a 19-6 shot advantage in the game, but McCormick made seven of her stops in the second half, including three in the final three minutes to keep the Mountaineers off the scoreboard and record her third career shutout. The 10 saves were the second-most for her in a Highlander uniform.

Duff's goal came following a corner kick by Lexi Denny. After the ball was initially cleared away, the Highlanders sent it back into the six-yard box and Duff pounced on a loose ball and finished from point-blank range. It was her fourth career goal.

Radford is back in action on Sunday as it returns to the New River Valley to host College of Charleston. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Cupp Stadium.
