HOW IT HAPPENED
  • No. 25-ranked Georgetown struck for a pair of early goals and went on to a 5-2 victory Saturday afternoon, handing the Radford men's soccer team its first loss of the season.
  • Big East Preseason Player of the Year Brandon Allen opened the scoring with an unassisted goal on the first shot of the game and then converted a penalty kick 46 seconds later to give the Hoyas a two-goal lead.
  • With the score 3-0 in the 36th, play was stopped for a weather delay that lasted approximately 40 minutes. Shortly after play resumed, senior Jamie Summers scored on a penalty kick to get the Highlanders on the board.
  • Georgetown answered two minutes later to take a three-goal lead into halftime.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Summers is now 2 for 2 on penalty kicks this season. His first tally was the lone goal in the victory over Iona. He had not attempted a shot from the line during regular play in his first three years.
  • Junior forward Garland Smith capped the game's scoring in the 90th minute with his second career goal. Freshman Austin Smythe assisted for his first career point.
  • Radford finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots, the fifth time the Highlanders have outshot their opponent in six games. Each team put six attempts on frame.
  • Evan Szklennik recorded a game-high five shots for RU.
  • Georgetown scored its four first-half goals on five total shots.

QUOTABLE
  • "This was one crazy game in which there could have been even more goals for both teams. There were some major momentum moments, but we did not take advantage of our chances, and they showed excellent finishing from top-level players. Georgetown is a really great team and the coaches do an incredibly good job in all ways. I am sure they will go on to have a great season. We must ensure we learn the lessons from this game in terms of our game management and defensive details. We look forward to a good week of training to improve and be ready for two tough home games." ~ Radford head coach, Marc Reeves
