JACKSON MAKES HISTORY IN 3-0 WIN OVER ROBERT MORRIS

MATCH INFORMATION
  • Score: Radford 3, Robert Morris 0 (27-25, 25-23, 26-24)
  • Records: Radford (7-6) | Robert Morris (5-8)
  • Location: Savage Arena | Toledo, Ohio

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior libero Kelby Jackson became the fifth Radford volleyball player to reach 1,000 career digs in the rally scoring era, and the Highlanders were able to conclude the Blue/Gold Invitational on a positive note by defeating Robert Morris in straight sets, Saturday.
  • Trailing 13-10 in the first set, RU mounted an 8-1 run to go in front, 18-14. The Colonials battled back to earn set point, 25-24, but two Savanna Burton kills and an RMU attack error lifted Radford to the early 1-0 edge in the match.
  • The Highlanders utilized a late 6-1 rally in the second stanza that set up Mandy Napierala's set-clinching kill.
  • Radford erased a 23-21 deficit in the third frame on the strength of a 5-1 surge capped by a Burton winner.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jackson finished with 17 digs, bringing her career total to 1,013 (ranks fifth all-time in program history).
  • Maddie Palmer continued to elevate her game, posting an eye-popping 17 kills (.350 hitting percentage) and a career-high 28 digs in just three sets of action. It was her 11th double-double of the season.
  • Burton notched her seventh double-double of the season (16 kills and 11 digs).
  • Kaylor Nash, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, totaled a career-high 56 assists and nine digs, while engineering the Highlanders' offense to a .273 attack clip.
  • One day after racking up a season-high 90 digs against Toledo, RU logged 78 digs in two fewer sets against the Colonials.
  • Valerie Gonzalez had a stellar effort, swinging .458 on her way to 12 kills, four blocks and one ace.
  • Robert Morris was led by Arden Fisher's double-double (11 kills and 22 digs).

UP NEXT
  • Radford opens Big South competition Friday, Sept. 25 when in-state rival Liberty invades the Dedmon Center for a 7 p.m. first serve.
  • The Highlanders will look to set the school record for consecutive home matches won. RU has prevailed in 15 straight, which is tied for the program record set from 1990-91.
