SCORING SUMMARY

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Second-half goals by Sivert Daehlie and Daniel O'Keefe broke a halftime deadlock to propel the Radford men's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference win over Howard Tuesday night at Cupp Stadium.
  • Taylor Martin found the back of the net just 23 seconds into the match off a pass from the backline by O'Keefe.
  • After Nigel Grant drew the Bison level in the 24th minute, Daehlie converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute for the go-ahead goal.
  • O'Keefe provided an insurance goal in the 82nd minute off a corner by fellow defender Fraser Colmer.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Daehlie's penalty kick was his second game-winning tally of the season. His first came in the season-opening win over Dayton.
  • The Highlanders are off to their best start since 1995. That team also began its season 3-0-1.
  • O'Keefe tallied his third career goal and first career assist.
  • Thirteen Highlanders recorded shots tonight. Daehlie led the way with three.
  • Aitor Pouseu Blanco registered four saves for the second straight outing.
  • RU outshot its opponent for the fourth time this season, gaining a 16-11 advantage over the Bison.

QUOTABLE
  • "I was disappointed with the majority of our players overall individual performances tonight. We had too many guys not execute the basics of what a game like this demands. Scoring that early should have led to us having an increased intensity to go on and get more goals, however, credit Howard for forcing their way back into it and making it a balanced game. It's great that we won, but we must learn and value the lessons we got from this game, as it could have gone a different direction. We play one of the very best teams in the nation on Saturday and will need complete focus on our physical and mental preparation from now until Saturday to be ready for a quality Georgetown team." ~ Radford head coach, Marc Reeves

UP NEXT
  • Radford will take the rest of the week to train for Saturday's showdown against nationally-ranked Georgetown at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C.
