  • Location: Willett Hall | Farmville, Va.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford's men's basketball team picked up its elusive first Big South Conference road victory and notched its third straight win overall, outscoring Longwood 90-81 Wednesday night inside Willett Hall.

YaYa Anderson and Cameron Jones each scored 20 points, while combining for 10 3-pointers to lead the way. Anderson hit a season-high six from long-range on just seven attempts, while Jones continued his strong play, going 7 for 14 from the field, while adding a team-high five assists and five rebounds.

Ed Polite, Jr. posted his fifth double-double of the season, tallying 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Brandon Holcomb added 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Highlanders got off to a good start, scoring 10 of the game's first 13 points and building an 18-11 lead with six different players contributing. However, with Rashun Davis going to the bench with his second foul, RU went through a field-goal drought of close to six and half minutes. Longwood went on a 12-3 run during that time before a putback by Darius Bolstad tied the game at 23-23. That basket began a 14-0 Highlander explosion over just 2:23 that was finished with two straight 3-pointers by Anderson followed by one from Jones. He was also fouled on the play and hit the free throw to make it 35-23 with 4:31 left in the half. The Lancers got a pair of 3's of their own to close the gap to 42-37 at the break.

The game of runs continued early in the second half. After Radford build the edge back up to 52-40, Longwood scored 11 straight to close the gap to one before Polite, Jr. stemmed the tide with back-to-back baskets inside and Davis converted a transition layup to make it 58-51. From there, Anderson and Jones combined for four 3-pointers, pushing the lead back into double figures at 79-66 with 2:45 left. The Highlanders then hit 11 of 14 free throws down the stretch to thwart any rally attempt.

Radford finishes its two-game road swing with a Saturday afternoon matchup at conference co-leader Winthrop. Tipoff in Rock Hill. S.C. is set for 4 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN3.

QUOTABLE
  • "We were shooting it really poorly from the free throw line on the road, about 57 percent and this game we ended up at 71 percent and hit a lot of big ones down the stretch. Also, we took care of the ball. Longwood is a team that forces a lot of turnovers and we only committed 11, and consequently we were able good shots and score a lot of points. There was a stretch in the second half where we took a lot of individual shots and they give the other team momentum to run out in transition. But we refocused, talked about it in the huddle and we came out shared the ball and were able to get some great shots. There are still a lot of games left and they're all going to be hard so to win three games in a row gives us a little confidence, but you can't get up and you can't too down." ~ Radford head coach Mike Jones
