HAYESVILLE, N.C. – After missing the last tournament due to an injury, Khushboo Thiagaraj opened the Bill Berg Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a six-over par 78 on the 5,876-yard The Ridges Country Club to stand in a tie for 27th place.

Led by the duo of Meagan Board and Thiagaraj, Radford finished with a day one total of 327 to stand in 12th place. The Highlanders will have to make up some ground on day two, standing 10 strokes out of 11th place UNC Greensboro.

Thiagaraj fired rounds of 39 on the front and back nine, collecting two birdies on the day. She is tied for fourth in par-4 scoring, averaging 4.10.

For the third time this season, this junior has charted the Highlanders' best round. In her four rounds played on the season, she has four scores in the 70s.

Following Thiagaraj, Board carded an eight-over par 80, which is tied for 41st place.

James Madison, which is ranked No. 145 in the nation according to Golfstat, fired a 298 and is leading tournament host Western Carolina by one stroke for the top spot on the team leaderboard.
