HIGHLANDERS’ SEASON ENDS WITH 2-0 QUARTERFINAL DEFEAT

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The sixth-seeded Radford women's soccer team saw its season come to an end after a 2-0 loss to third-seeded Campbell Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament.

The Fighting Camels (12-7) scored a goal in each half to advance to next week's semifinals, while the Highlanders finished the campaign at 7-9.

Trailing 1-0, Radford had its best scoring chances on back-to-back attempts by Jessica Wollmann and Jasmine Casarez within a two-minute span early in the second half. Wollmann broke loose near the right corner of the box and fired a shot toward the left post, but it went just wide. Perez then set up Casarez with a cross inside the box, but her header sailed high.

Campbell then made it a two-goal lead in the 61st minute after gaining control off of a goal kick, as Alexa Genas scored from just inside the box to the far post, her second of the game and eighth of the season.

The Fighting Camels then limited the Highlanders opportunites the rest of the way to secure the victory.

After a fairly even first 25 minutes of play in the match, Campbell stepped up its attack with six shots over a five-minute span around a pair of corner kicks, capitalizing on their sixth one in the 33rd minute. With the ball bouncing around the box, the Camels put a shot toward the right post that keeper Courtney Kaplan was able to deflect away, but Genas was there to put home the rebound.

Campbell finished with 21-7 advantage in shots, although it was just a 7-3 edge on goal. Perez and Casarez each had two shots for the Highlanders, while Kaplan recorded five saves.

"Credit to Campbell, they played a good game and we wish them luck going forward," Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "I thought we played well in spells tonight, especially in the beginning of the second half until they scored the second goal, and that took the wind out of our sails a bit."

Hannah Duff, Lexi Denny, Miranda Carlson and Sydney Chervenic closed out their four-year Radford careers.

"I want to thank our seniors for their dedication and commitment to the program," Sohrabi said. "Our returners can learn so much from them."
