SOFTBALL STORMS BACK TO DOWN GEORGETOWN, 10-6

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Radford softball team scored seven unanswered runs to rally past Georgetown 10-6 Saturday afternoon and notch its second straight victory in the Dolphin Invitational.

Trailing 6-3 after three innings, the Highlanders scored two runs in the fourth, took the lead with three in the fifth and freshman Marissa Yow capped the scoring in the sixth with her first career home run, a two-run shot that followed a double by Kayla Bishton.

Radford racked up 11 hits in the win, led by Marissa Gagliano's 3 for 5 outing with two RBIs and two runs scored. Summer Robinson and Nia Chiles added two hits.

Abby Morrow tossed four scoreless innings of relief to notch the victory. She allowed just one hit and struck out three without a walk.

Georgetown scored five runs in the first and another in the third before the Highlanders dominated the rest of the way. In the fourth, Alex Lang drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI triple by Gagliano and Robinson added an RBI single to make it 6-5.

Radford then mounted a two-out rally in the fifth, Lang walked again, Chiles followed with an infield single and Gagliano's RBI single up the middle tied it. Hannah Medlam then put one through the left side, plating two runs for an 8-6 lead.

"Today showed a lot about our team's toughness," head coach Aileen Morales said. "We put ourselves in a hole early with some defensive miscues, but we maintained an aggressive approach on offense each inning, leading to runs. It was great to see how the team responded to adversity and I am impressed with the way they battled."

The Highlanders recorded five extra-base hits in the game, with Becky Mantel getting them on the board with an RBI double in the first inning and Casey Burns adding an RBI triple in the third.

Radford (2-1) wraps up play in the tournament Sunday at 9 a.m. against Pittsburgh.
