ROGERS SHINES IN RADFORD WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEBUT

GAME INFORMATION
-  Score: Saint Francis (Pa.) 23, Radford 8
-  Records: Radford (0-1) | Saint Francis (Pa.) (1-0)
-  Location: DeGol Field (Loretto, Pa.)

LORETTO, Pa. – Despite Emma Rogers' five goals and one assist, the Radford women's lacrosse team was unable to prevail in its inaugural game, dropping a 23-8 decision to Saint Francis (Pa.) at DeGol Field.

Michaela Petersen rocketed home the program's first-ever goal at the 28:15 mark of the first half to give Radford the 1-0 edge. However, the Red Flash countered with four unanswered goals to seize control of the lead it never relinquished.

Rogers tallied the Highlanders' final four goals of the first half to keep them within striking distance, down 12-6 at intermission.

Saint Francis padded its lead to double digits six minutes into the second stanza before Avery Reding notched her first goal as a Highlander. Juliette Ruland provided the other tally for RU. She led the Highlanders in draw controls (four) and ground balls (three).

Rogers' five goals are tied for the most recorded by a Big South player in a single game this season. The Reston, Va., native is tied with Winthrop's Allie Yeager for the conference's top mark.

The Red Flash gained advantages in shots (37-19), ground balls (12-7) and draw controls (20-10). Saint Francis also took seven free-position shots.

Radford returns to the Commonwealth for Wednesday's non-conference battle with Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. Due to the incoming weather system next week, the game will most likely be moved to the Hokies' new indoor practice facility in Blacksburg. However, an official decision will not be made until the beginning of next week.

QUOTABLE
"I'm proud of the team's effort in our first-ever game. However, we aren't satisfied with the result because we know we can play better. We're looking forward to the next opportunity to prove ourselves." ~ Radford head coach, Haley Marvine
