VALIANT COMEBACK COMES UP SHORT AT DELAWARE STATE

DOVER, Del. – Radford trimmed a 10-goal deficit to four late in the second half, however, Delaware State was able to hold on for an 18-14 non-conference women's lacrosse win Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
 
Trailing 16-6 after the Hornets' Iman Hassan scored her fourth goal of the day, RU displayed resiliency with just over 12 minutes to go.

Emma Rogers ignited the surge with her sixth goal of the season, which was the beginning of an 8-2 run by the Highlanders. Juliette Ruland scored three of her four goals during the rally.
 
Gracie Peterson, who tied Ruland for the team lead with four goals, netted her final strike with 30 ticks left on the clock, which pulled Radford within four. The Highlanders could get no closer, however, the confidence gained from this run should bode well for the young group as the season progresses.
 
Adrian Rius and Ruland both earned five draw controls, while four Radford players ended with two ground balls. Callie Bonnel, who scored her first goal of the season early in the first half, paced all Highlanders in caused turnovers with three.
 
Delaware State edged RU in shots, 34-33, and ground balls, 17-14. On the strength of Rius and Ruland, the Highlanders gained an 18-16 edge in draw controls.
 
Hassan and Kayla Yurkanin tied for game-high scoring honors with five goals apiece for the Hornets.
 
The Highlanders' home opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. when they welcome Howard to Cupp Stadium.
