RADFORD, Va. – Emma Rogers and Gracie Peterson combined for nine goals to ignite Radford women's lacrosse to its first win in program history, a 19-8 triumph over Howard in the Highlanders' home opener Saturday at Cupp Stadium.

Rogers, who tallied five goals for the second time this season, led all players with eight shots. She was 4 for 6 on free-position attempts. Rogers added five ground balls and one assist.

"We are thrilled we won our home opener and first game in program history," head coach Haley Marvine expressed. "Our team played hard for 60 minutes today and that was our goal going into the game. So many players stepped up today, and I am very proud of them all."

Fueling the Highlanders' hot start was Peterson, who scored all four of her goals in the first half. She netted three in a row to push Radford ahead, 9-3, with 9:38 remaining before halftime. RU went into break with an 11-5 advantage.

After Callie Bonnel opened the second half with her second goal of the season, Howard responded with three straight goals to close the gap to 12-8 with 22:19 showing on the clock.

Undeterred, Radford ended the game on a 7-0 surge en route to scoring a program record 19 goals.

The Highlanders' offensive production can be credited to how successful they were in controlling the draw. Radford earned a 17-12 edge in that category, led by Adrian Rius' nine draws.

Hannah Rosen earned her first win in goal for RU, notching nine saves.

Radford heads to the Sunshine State for spring break. While there, the Highlanders will clash with Stetson on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from DeLand, Fla.
