STATESBORO, Ga. –  Radford only managed two runs on nine hits, as Georgia Southern rolled to a 10-2 series clinching win, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at J.I. Clements Stadium.

For the first time in the series, Georgia Southern scored first, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. The Eagle runs came on a Jordan Wren single and Logan Baldwin sacrifice fly.

The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the second on a back-to-back base hits from Cal Baker and CJ Ballard. Extending their lead to 6-0, Georgia Southern added two more runs in the fifth, scoring on an error and passed ball.

Trailing 6-0 with two hits through five innings, the Highlander bats started to come alive in the sixth. Shane Johnsonbaugh lifted an opposite field double down the leftfield line and Danny Hrbek followed with a single. With runners on the corners, Zach York drove in Johnsonbaugh from third on a fielders' choice, cutting the lead to 6-1.

Radford's offense carried over to the seventh inning as Trevor Riggs and Chris Coia collected a pair of one-out singles. Coming off one of his best games in a Highlander uniform, Luke Wise popped up a bunt that landed behind the pitcher's mound, scoring Riggs easily from third base. The RBI bunt single was the second of the series for Wise.

Georgia Southern added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, taking a 10-2 series clinching win over the Highlanders.

Radford will have a quick turnaround, returning to action on Tuesday, traveling to New River Valley foe Virginia Tech. First pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at English Field. The Highlanders went 2-1 versus the Hokies a season ago.

QUOTABLE
  • "When you don't pitch, hit or defend you usually end up on the short end of the stick. We have several young players and some guys are stepping into new roles. It is just going to be an adjustment period early in the season. We will continue to work hard and coach 'em up."~ Radford head coach, Joe Raccuia
