WOMEN’S GOLF STARTS OFF STRONG DURING FIRST ROUND AT KIAWAH

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team fired a 328 in Sunday's opening round of the Kiawah Island Classic hosted by College of Charleston.
Oak Point, which RU played first, is the more difficult of the two courses used for the three-day tournament. It had a six-stroke difference in scoring average compared to Osprey Point, which the other half of the field played.
Khushboo Thiagaraj was on a roll during her round, making the turn at 1-over-par. The sophomore finished with a 7-over-par 79 to lead the Highlanders during their opening 18.
Larissa Carter and Olivia Jay both carded an 82, while Meagan Board signed for an 85. Kasidy Beckel ended her round with a 103.
Chattanooga, ranked 60th in the latest Golfstat poll, was the lone squad in the 41-team field to return to the clubhouse in red figures. The Mocs charted a 5-under-par 283 and lead College of Charleston by seven shots.
Three of their golfers are inside the top 10, including Emily McLennan, who is tied for the overnight lead at 4-under-par 68.
The Highlanders move over to Osprey Point for Monday's second round, which gets underway at 9:15 a.m. RU is paired with Loyola and Boston University.
