RADFORD DROPS 19-13 DECISION TO KENNESAW STATE

RADFORD, Va. – Olivia Hokanson and Taylor McGhee combined for nine goals to push Kennesaw State past Radford, 19-13, in non-conference women's lacrosse action from Cupp Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Hokanson tallied a team-best five goal for the Owls, who recorded their first win of the season. McGhee was right behind with her four markers.
Trailing 8-3 with 14:24 remaining before halftime, the Highlanders scored the final three goals of the opening stanza to close the gap to two (8-6) at intermission. Emma Rogers, Callie Bonnel and Juliette Ruland scored during the rally.
Out of the break, KSU tallied the first four goals to create a 12-6 cushion. Radford got no closer than three the rest of the way.
Gracie Peterson found the back of the net a season-high five times for the Highlanders. She took 10 of Radford's 31 shots on the day. Adrian Rius controlled a game-high eight draws.
Hannah Rosen played all 60 minutes in goal, recording 12 saves.
The Owls finished with a 45-31 shot advantage and a 27-24 edge in ground balls. RU controlled the draw by a 17-16 margin.
Radford gears up for its Big South opener next Saturday when the Highlanders welcome defending Big South champion Winthrop to Cupp Stadium for a 1 p.m. opening draw.
