GEORGETOWN, S.C. – Radford is eighth following Monday's opening round of the 2016 Big South Women's Golf Championship at the par 72, 6,082-yard DeBordieu Club.
The Highlanders, who are just two strokes away from sixth place, fired a 325 for their first 18 holes. They trail Presbyterian College and Longwood, who are both tied for sixth at 323. Defending champion Coastal Carolina has a two-shot advantage over top-seed Campbell after the Chanticleers carded a 294.
Lena Schaeffner of Coastal Carolina and Annelie Sjoholm of Campbell both signed for a 1-under-par 71 and share the top spot on the individual leaderboard.
Khushboo Thiagaraj is the top Highlander in the standings on the strength of her 77. The sophomore, who recorded a birdie at the par-3 16th, is tied for 14th.
Behind her team-best two birdies, Larissa Carter is tied for 22nd with her 79. Although she did not tally a birdie during her opening 18, Olivia Jay notched 10 pars on her way to an 80.
RU is paired with Longwood and High Point for Tuesday's second round, which gets underway for the trio at 9 a.m. off the 10th hole.
