LYNCHBURG, Va. – Chandler Davis collected a career-high three RBIs on two hits as Radford was unable to overcome six late Liberty runs in a 11-5 loss, Friday night at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The Highlanders battled back from an early 5-1 deficit, trying the game with two runs in the sixth inning.

Appearing in his 218th career game and a setting a new program record, Chris Coia led off the contest with an infield single to second base. Colby Higgerson put down his 13th sacrifice bunt of the season, advancing Coia to second base.

With Danny Hrbek at the plate, Evan Mitchell let loose a wild pitch, which allowed Coia to take third base. Attempting to nab Coia at third, an errant throw from Payton Scarbrough allowed Coia to trot home for the first run of the contest.

Two three up, three down innings from Zack Ridgely sent Radford into the third inning with a 1-0 lead. Liberty got to Ridgely in the bottom half of the third, loading the bases on three consecutive singles.

Liberty plated five runs on four hits, highlighted by an Andrew Yacyk two-run double as the Flames took a commanding 5-1 lead after three innings.

Trailing 5-1, Higgerson led off the fourth with a single through the right side. Hrbek reached on a fielders' choice and Shane Johnsonbaugh flied out as the promising inning looked bleak.

Jonathan Gonzalez and Nygeal Andrews kept the inning going with back-to-back two-out singles to load the bases.

Fresh off a 2 for 2 game on Wednesday, Chandler Davis blooped a 2-1 pitch into shallow center field, allowing Hrbek and Gonzalez to score as the Highlanders cut the deficit to 5-3. Andrews and Davis moved up a base as the throw from center field got away from Scarbrough on a play at the plate. Adam Whitacre grounded out to second, stranding two Highlanders.

Following a scoreless fifth inning by the two in-state foes, Radford went back to work in the top of the sixth.

Johnsonbaugh led off the inning with a sharply hit single to right-center field. Gonzalez followed with a single off the right field wall as Johnsonbaugh held up as Will Shepherd nearly made the catch.

After the two singles, Andrews executed a perfect sac bunt, moving the RU runners up to second and third base. Davis came up with another strong at bat, hitting a ground ball to shortstop, scoring Johnsonbaugh from third.

Davis' third RBI on the night pulled the Highlanders within 5-4 of the Flames. Radford knotted the contest one pitch later on a Mitchell balk as Gonzalez walked home from third base.

The Radford lead was short lived as Liberty regained the lead on a Josh Latta sac fly to right field, giving the Flames a 6-5 lead after six innings.

Liberty loaded the bases and padded its lead on a bases clearing double from Dalton Britt in the bottom of the seventh, extending the lead to 9-5. The Flames added two more insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run single from Yacyk as the Flames took a commanding 11-5 game one victory.
