HIGH POINT, N.C. – After a one-hour rain delay, High Point jumped on Radford early with a six-run third inning as the Highlander bullpen yielded only two hits over the final five innings in the 7-2 Big South loss, Friday night at a soggy Williard Stadium.

After a scoreless opening frame, High Point struck first after Dominic Fazio led off the bottom of the second inning with a double into the left-center field gap. Fazio would come around to score on a Hunter Lee RBI single up the middle for an early 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the third saw the Panthers pad their lead, loading the bases with one out. After a hit by pitch and walk, High Point received a grand slam off the bat of Zach Vandergrift. Vandergrift's first home run of the season extended the Panthers lead to 7-0.

Jonathan Gonzalez led off the top of the fifth with a pinch hit single to left-center. Colby Higgerson followed with a double down the left field line, putting Highlanders on the corners.

With runners on the corners, Luke Wise lined a 1-0 fastball into right field, getting the Highlanders on board. The RU threat was ended as Chris Coia grounded into an inning ending double play.

Radford used four shutout innings by Miller Trevvett and Mack Krupp to hold the score standstill as the Highlanders looked to cut the deficit.

Newly entered Matt Roth led off the top of the eighth with a double into the left-center field gap, advancing to third on a Shane Johnsonbaugh groundout.

Danny Hrbek drove in Roth on a RBI groundout to second base, giving the junior his team best 23rd RBI of the season.

High Point only managed two hits over the final five frames as Radford was unable to capitalize in the 7-2 loss.

The two Big South foes return to action tomorrow in a 5 p.m. contest.
