RADFORD RECEIVES BALANCED ATTACK IN 3-0 SWEEP OF NORFOLK STATE

RADFORD, Va. – Radford received an overall effort from its front line as four Highlanders finished with six-plus kills in a 3-0 sweep of Norfolk State in the first of two Saturday afternoon matches in the Highlander Invitational.

The Spartans opened the first set with a 7-3 lead over the Highlanders, but a strong four-point stretch from Maddie Palmer and Amaya Rousseau evened the match at eight. The duo combined for three kills and one block during the stretch.

Mallory McKnight and Palmer took over the rest of the set, combing for 13 kills as the Highlanders opened the match with a 25-19 first set victory. At one point in the set, RU scored six straight points off kills, including three in a row by McKnight.

The second set was a game of runs for the Highlanders. Radford opened the set on 7-2 run, forcing a Spartan timeout on a Lidija Mamic kill. Coming out of the timeout, the Highlanders went on another 7-2 run as four straight kills by Sydney Tekstra, Palmer and Mamic forced another timeout.

With a comfortable 10-point lead, Radford cruised to a 25-11 win, holding a 2-0 advantage at intermission.

The final set saw the Highlanders share the wealth as Stephanie Neast, Megan Harris, Mamic and Palmer collect two kills each. Radford went 13 for 19 in kill attempts in the 25-14 deciding match victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Maddie Palmer led the way with a match-high 17 kills, giving her 41 in the first two matches. Palmer finished with a blistering .600 attacking percentage, going 17 for 25.
  • Palmer finished with a team-high 10 digs, giving her 17 career double-doubles.
  • Mallory McKnight (7 kills), Sydney Tekstra (6) and Lidija Mamic (6) rounded out the Highlander attack.
  • Mamic came off the bench to go 6 for 7 in attack attempts.
  • Stephanie Neast and Mamic assisted on three blocks each as Radford finished with 12.
  • Haley Kleespies finished with a match-high 37 assists.
