DAEHLIE'S GAME WINNER GIVES NO. 24 RADFORD 2-1 DOUBLE OT WIN

RADFORD, Va. – No. 24 Radford only managed four shots in the second half and first overtime, before Sivert Daehlie's 10th career game winning goal in the 104th minute handed the Highlanders a 2-1 double overtime victory against Elon, Sunday night inside Cupp Stadium.

The Highlanders did not manage a shot in the first overtime as the Phoenix maintained possession for most of the 10 minutes, finishing with four shots in the first overtime.

Three minutes into the second overtime, Elon received a shot on frame by Nichola O'Callaghan, but Aitor Pouseu Blanco's eighth save of the contest gave the Highlanders a chance.

Radford used the chance and opportunity, pushing the ball down the pitch. Following the ball bouncing off several bodies, Finn Tiedemann fired a shot on goal as a diving Matthew Jegier saved the attempt.

The diving save attempt rebounded the ball directly to Daehlie. An off-balanced Daehlie got a toe on the ball as a Phoenix defender attempted a sliding save inside the goal, but the ball bounced off Jegier into the back of the net for the 2-1 double overtime victory.

Radford's first goal of the match came with three minutes to spare in the first half after a beautiful display of passing by Garland Smith and Tiedemann found Michael Walsh for the goal from the left side of the box.

QUOTABLE
  • "Elon is an exceptionally strong team in every area, they are very technical and physical. Sometimes we had to ride our luck in certain moments of the match. I thought we defended fairly well in open play. We had to really battle and be tough after giving up that goal. Elon crashed the box really well with strength and height. A number of our guys got in the way of their shots, which is what you need to do to win against good teams." ~ Radford head coach Marc Reeves.

UP NEXT
  • The Highlanders will stay in-state, traveling to James Madison on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup. Radford is 2-0 on the Dukes' field in 2016 as a part of the JMU Invitational.
