CHARLESTON, S.C. – Radford dropped its first game of 2017 after a frigid shooting performance in a 57-45 loss to Charleston Southern, snapping Radford's six-game winning streak and five-game Big South streak Saturday afternoon.

Walker added eight points during the run, including four points on four consecutive free throws for her only attempts from the charity stripe on the day.

Following the four Walker free throws, Claudia Quevedo collected a steal, resulting in a 3-pointer of her own off a Jayda Worthy pass from the free throw line. On the next Charleston Southern possession, Walker picked up a steal to go coast-to-coast for a layup to force a Buc timeout. The back-to-back steals increased the lead to 24-11 and Worthy followed with a layup to cap off the 20-0 run.

The Buccaneers closed out the half on a 9-2 run, heading into the locker room with a 28-20 deficit.

In the first 20 minutes of play, Radford and Charleston Southern struggled to find their touch, combing to make only 16 shots in 56 attempts. The Highlanders dominated the glass for a 28-14 advantage.

The second half opened with a Worthy layup at the 9:13 mark and Radford would not score again until 44 seconds remaining in the quarter on a Worthy free throw.

QUOTABLE
  • "Charleston Southern was the better team today. We had one solid quarter, you can't do that and expect to win on the road in the Big South. We were very uncharacteristic in some areas, especially with fouls and lack of assists. We need to continue to stay focused on improving as a team and nothing else. I look forward to seeing how we respond this upcoming week." ~ Radford head coach Mike McGuire
