RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team earned a crucial 2-0 victory over Presbyterian on Senior Night behind two goals from junior midfielder Jasmine Casarez.

With the win, the Highlanders improve to 2-5-0 in Big South play and 9-6-0 overall to jump back into a qualifying position for the 2017 Big South Tournament with two more games to go. The Blue Hose drop to 1-6-0 in conference play and 3-11-0 overall.

Despite PC holding a 9-to-4 advantage in shots during the first half, Radford was the team that made their shots count. In the 13th minute, the Highlanders jumped out to a 1-0 lead off the foot of Casarez.

Redshirt junior McKensey Ziegler made a strong run down the right flank and crossed the ball into the six-yard ball where senior forward Cassidy Ratliff redirected the ball into the path of Casarez for the goal. It was a special moment for two members of the senior class to combine on the assist.

Senior Katie McCormick got the start in goal and was a vital cog in the victory. She played the first 45 minutes of the match and made five saves on nine shots faced to protect the early lead. Freshman Lexi Dean took over for McCormick following halftime.

The Highlanders came out of the locker room and into the second half firing, stacking two straight breakaway chances that nearly doubled the lead. Presbyterian substitute goalkeeper Anna Coleman came up big in both instances however, stopping a one-on-one against junior forward Jessica Wollmann in the 47th minute before making another big save against Casarez in the 49th minute.

The Blue Hose defense held out until the 61st minute before Casarez found the back of the net again. Sophomore forward Nelia Perez placed a perfect through ball down the left sideline to put Wollmann behind the defense and she subsequently found Casarez across the 18-yard box for a right-footed finish.

It was Radford that controlled the run of play from there forward, keeping Presbyterian off the scoreboard to secure the win.
