DAEHLIE SCORES IN SEVENTH STRAIGHT; RADFORD DRAWS AT PC

MATCH INFORMATION
  • Score: Radford 1, Presbyterian 1
  • Records: Highlanders (6-2-2, 2-0-1) | Blue Hose (3-5-2, 1-1-1)
  • Location: Martin Stadium | Clinton, S.C.

CLINTON, S.C. – Radford had its four-match winning streak snapped, but kept its seven-match unbeaten streak intact as the Highlanders earned a 1-1 draw at Presbyterian in the third double overtime match between the two Big South foes in the last three matchups.

The lone Highlander goal came off the boot of Sivert Daehlie as the junior notched his eighth goal on the season, including a goal in seven straight matches.

Locked in an early defensive battle, both teams knew that one goal may be all that was needed for the result. The Blue Hose controlled the ball most of the first half, edging the Highlanders in shots 5-2.

Sergio Pinto's third shot of the opening half found the back of the net in the 43rd minute as Ricardo Hernandez dribbled the ball to the front of the 18-yard box, dishing a pass to Pinto on the left side, who finished to the top right shelf for his first goal on the season.

Trailing at halftime for only the third time on the season, Radford quickly knotted the match in the 53rd minute. Max Edwards sent a cross into the box from the far side that deflected off a Blue Hose defender. As the ball hopped up in the air another Presbyterian defender came over to clear the ball, but instead kicked it straight into the night. Connor Behrend misplayed the ball as it fell from the dark, resulting in Daehlie getting a chest on the ball.

The Highlanders outshot the Blue Hose 10-4 in the second half, firing five shots on frame. Radford made a charging effort in the final minutes with six shots in the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Looking for his 12th goal and the game winner, Kieran Roberts had three shots on goal during the span, including two in the final six minutes.

The first overtime saw one shot, coming from Evan Szklennik, but the attempt was blocked by the Blue Hose backline.

In the second overtime period, Radford held a 3-2 advantage on shots. The best opportunity for the golden goal came in the 106th minute as Fraser Colmer sent a long ball into the 18-yard box as a diving Daehlie got a head on the ball straight into the hands of Behrend.
