RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team dropped a fiercely contested double-overtime battle with Gardner-Webb, 3-2, in front of the largest crowd Cupp Stadium has seen this year.

With both sides seeking out the golden goal in the second overtime period, it was Gardner-Webb that found the back of the net. Samuelle Grove received the ball just past midfield and made a move past her defender to find open grass down the right flank. She made her way towards the Radford box before crossing it in to Stina Kleppe for the one-time, right-footed goal.

With the Saturday afternoon loss, the Highlanders have now lost four straight games and fallen to 8-5-0 and 1-4-0 in Big South play while the Runnin' Bulldogs finally get their first conference win of the season to improve to 1-2-1 in BSC and 3-9-1 overall. The negative results in overtime games continue with Radford holding a 0-8-1 record in their last nine matches requiring extra time.

The Highlanders entered the halftime break with a 1-0 lead thanks to a McKensey Ziegler opener. The senior forward came off the bench and scored her first goal since 2015 as she headed home a corner kick from sophomore defender Allyson Giannone.

Giannone's assist represents her 10th of the season, matching Helen Negrey's 1983 mark that ranks fourth in Radford single-season history.

The 'Dogs would respond in kind in the second half, however, with two goals of their own. The first came in the 51st minute when Aubrie Jackson tangled with a defender, latched onto a high Emily Jonas free kick into the box and scored.

GWU's Kleppe got her first goal of the match in the 58th minute thanks in part to a Radford miscue. Sophomore goalkeeper Courtenay Kaplan mistruck a goal kick that went straight to Kleepe who then calmly struck from 30 yards out.

Just three minutes later, freshman midfielder Gabi Paupst would secure an equalizing goal and the highlight of the game. Following a foul call just outside the GWU 18-yard box, Paupst stepped up and scored a beautiful free kick goal straight into the left, upper-90 of the goal.

Gardner-Webb's defense stepped up big in the second half to limit the Highlanders to only four shots after they got off nine in the first stanza. The Runnin' Bulldogs outshot Radford, 22-17 overall.
