RADFORD, Va. – After receiving a couple of days off for the holiday break, Radford returned to the floor refreshed and ready to crank up the tempo as the Highlanders outran UVa-Wise 75-43 in the final non-conference game of the season, Saturday afternoon inside the Dedmon Center.

Entering the game with an 18.1 turnovers forced per game, Radford's smothering defense forced 22 Cavalier miscues, turning them into 23 points off a season-high 16 steals. The Highlanders' tempo continued with 20 fastbreak points.

Radford placed four players in double-figures for the second straight game and fourth time on the season as Jayda Worthy led the way with a season-high 19 points, while etching her name in the program's history books.

Worthy entered the game needing only 14 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark to become the 22nd player in program history to do so. The senior came out of the gate on fire with 10 points in the first half. Worthy opened the second half with an offensive rebound and putback, completing the three-point play to give her 999 career points.

At the seven-minute mark, Worthy was fouled on a breakaway fastbreak, making both free throws to also become the 12th player in program history with 1,000 points and 500 career rebounds. Worthy has 628 rebounds, which ranks 13th in Radford history.

Destinee Walker followed with 15 points, joining Worthy with a 7 for 11 performance from the field. Khiana Johnson and Lydia Rivers chipped in with 11 points each.

Of Radford's 30 made field goals, 20 were assisted on as Claudia Quevedo dished out a career best eight assists, flirting with becoming the first Highlander with 10 dimes since 2013. The redshirt junior also finished with a career-high five steals.

Leading by only nine points (22-13) with 6:03 remaining in the first half, Radford used a 13-0 swing to push its lead to 20 points on six straight layups as Destinee Walker got the first four to fall in transitional play.

Radford scored 40 points in the second half to collect its 20th straight home win with a 75-43 decision over in-state NCAA Division II foe UVa-Wise.

QUOTEABLE
  • "Part of today's game plan was to try and dictate the pace. We wanted to try and play at a quick place for long stretches of time. I thought the girls did a nice job of running the floor. I thought you could see early in the game that we weren't really used to finishing shots at that pace. We executed one of the keys to the game plan, which was controlling the pace and the tempo for most of the game." ~ Radford head coach Mike McGuire
