RADFORD DROPS TOURNEY FINALE TO KENNESAW ST, 3-1

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Radford softball team fell to Kennesaw State 3-1 Sunday morning in its final game of the Chattanooga Challenge.

Maggie Rowe accounted for the Highlanders' run, hitting her second home run of the season in the fourth inning. However, Kennesaw's Courtney Sutter answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame and provided the game-winning runs with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Sutter, a senior catcher and two-time Atlantic Sun Conference honoree, entered the season with 21 home runs.

Radford (3-2) totaled six hits in the game, with Marissa Gagliano collecting two, along with her fifth stolen base of the season. Hannah Medlam, Summer Robinson and Brittany Wratchford recorded the other hits.

The Highlanders' tried to rally in the seventh. After Kayla Bishton reached on a catcher's interference, Wratchford delivered a pinch-hit single to put runners on first and second, but a pair of strikeouts ended the game.

Abby Morrow (2-1) pitched her third straight complete-game, striking out a season-high six without a walk, while allowing six hits.

The two teams will meet again for a doubleheader next Friday as part of the I-75 Classic in Atlanta. Radford will also play a doubleheader at Georgia Tech and a single game at Georgia State.
