RADFORD EXCHANGES SHUTOUT VICTORIES WITH GEORGIA TECH

ATLANTA, Ga. – For the second straight day, the Radford softball team won the opener of a doubleheader before dropping the second game as the Highlanders exchanged shutouts with Georgia Tech on Saturday, taking a 4-0 decision before falling by a 3-0 score.

Abby Morrow posted her best outing of the season in the first game, leading Radford to its first-ever victory over the ACC program in the teams' seventh meeting. She tossed a four-hitter, limiting the Yellow Jackets to just four singles, and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts.

The senior retired 10 of the first 11 batters with four strikeouts, before Georgia Tech got its first hit, a one-out single in the fourth. A walk and another single loaded the bases, but Morrow got a called strikeout to end the Jackets' only real threat of the game. She then worked around walks in the fifth and seventh and one hit in the sixth, closing it out with three of her 10 groundball outs.

The offense went to work right away and provided the only support she needed with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Marissa Gagliano started it off by doubling over the centerfielder, Sofia Tapia walked and both runners moved up on a double steal. Mundy then plated Gagliano with a sacrifice fly to right and Kayla Bishton delivered a two-out RBI single for the second run.

Robinson then made it 3-0 in the fourth with hit her first homer of the season and Mundy capped the scoring with her second in two days leading off the sixth.

Radford totaled nine hits in the game, with Gagliano, Mundy and Bishton each collecting two. Mundy had two RBIs and a run scored.

In the second game, though, two Georgia Tech pitchers combined on a one-hitter, with Maggie Rowe breaking up the no-hit bid on a leadoff single to center in the seventh inning.

The Yellow Jackets scored two runs on three hits and a walk in the first inning and added a solo homer in the third. Kayla Huffman started the game and went 4 1-3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Mallory Marsicek pitched the last 1 2-3 without allowing a hit.

Radford (5-4) concludes its weekend in the Peach State Sunday with a single game at Georgia State, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
