THOEN & TAYLOR COLLECT WINS ON SENIOR DAY; NAMED TEAM MVPs



RADFORD, Va. – Playing in their final match at the Radford Tennis Complex, Samuel Taylor and Janken Thoen left it all on the court as the duo won their singles matches, while teaming up for a doubles win. Radford was unable finish with a winning record in Big South play for the first time since 2012, falling 4-3 to Commonwealth foe Longwood, Wednesday afternoon.
 
Radford (6-14) falls to 3-4 in league play in the regular season finale and will await its opponent for next week's Big South Championships.
 
The duo defeated Jorge Gomis and Noah Petralia in No. 3 doubles for their team leading seventh win in doubles play. With the win, they improve to 3-2 in Big South action.
 
The Highlanders jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead once singles action started up. Thoen collected a quick 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles over Gomis. The win was his eighth on the season, finishing the regular season with an 9-8 record.
 
Robin Calais followed Thoen with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Julian Farthing in No. 4 singles, giving the freshman his second Big South on the season while improving to 8-8 overall.
 
Following Longwood already clinching the match, Taylor added the final point for the Highlanders with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Arthur Bardelloto in No. 3 singles. Taylor finishes the regular season with an 7-10 record and 4-3 clip in league play.
 
Following the match, head coach Mike Anderson named Thoen and Taylor Co-Team MVPs.
