RADFORD DROPS DEFENSIVE BATTLE AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford women's lacrosse team dropped a tough defensive battle to in-state foe, Liberty, 13-10 on Wednesday night at Liberty Lacrosse Field.
 
In a game where goals were at a premium, the Highlanders (6-9, 2-4 Big South) were down 10-6 with 20:02 to play in the second half when they rattled off three straight goals over the next five minutes to cut the deficit to one. Lindsey Carroll scored first which made it a 10-7 contest and Adrian Rius scored two goals within a minute forcing Liberty to call a timeout with 14:52 and a 10-9 lead.
 
After a change at goalie for the Flames (5-11, 4-2 Big South) and five combined turnovers by both teams, Liberty answered with a goal by Brianna McCaffrey extending its lead to 11-9 with 9:41 to play. The Flames scored two more before Rius scored her fifth goal of the game that made the score 13-10 with 14 seconds remaining.
 
Radford fell behind early in the start of the game as Liberty scored the first four before the Highlanders got on the board with 11:37 to play in the first half. Emma Rogers, Juliette Ruland and Rius each scored to tie the game at four with 3:32 to play in the first half. The Flames went on a run of their own prior to the end of the half and scored three goals to take a 7-4 lead into the locker room.
 
Jenny Davis tied a career-high 18 saves after seeing 47 shots by the Flames. There were a combined 39 caused turnovers in the game as the Highlanders tallied 14, which ties a single-game high this season.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
•  Five different players scored for Radford. Led by Adrian Rius, who tied a career-high five goals, Juliette Ruland chipped in with two and Lindsey Carroll, Emma Rogers and Amanda Paino added one.
•  Paino scored her second goal of the season and has scored a goal in back-to-back games.
•  Jenny Davis tied a career-high with 18 saves and recorded her fifth game with 10 or more saves (second in a row).
•  Rius had nine draw controls in the game after winning nine in the previous game. She now has 89 draw controls this season.
•  The Highlanders won 15 draw controls to Liberty's 10.
•  Emily Kowalik gathered six ground balls, which set a career-high for the redshirt freshman. Avery Reding tallied five, which tied a career-high.
•  Radford caused 14 turnovers as Kowalik led with four. Reding caused three and Callie Bonnel and Shea Swingle caused two.

UP NEXT
Radford will return home to wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Cupp Stadium as Campbell comes to town. First draw is set for noon.
