NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Radford was held to one hit in the final five innings, dropping the Big South road series to Charleston Southern in a 3-2 decision as Buccaneer relievers combined for seven strikeouts over the span.

For the second straight game, Charleston Southern struck first as the Buccaneers scored twice on three hits and a Radford miscue in the bottom of the second. Chris Singleton and Mike Sconzo started the inning with a pair of one-out singles, putting runners on the corners.

Kyle Vesnesky reached base via an error for the third time in the series as his ground ball to third base skipped past the body of Matt Roth. This misplayed ball allowed Singleton to trot home. The second run came on a Cole German single through the right side, plating Sconzo to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead.

Radford starter Danny Hrbek battled back to get the Highlanders out of the inning as German was caught stealing on a strong throw from Johnathan Gonzalez to a covering Kyle Butler at second. Hrbek stranded Vesnesky on third with a strikeout of Alex Andronica.

The Highlanders looked to get the two runs back in the third inning as Clayton Baine reached on a one-out walk and Luke Wise followed with a bunt single. Adam Whitacre continued the rally with a single to right field, but Wise was thrown out at second 9-6-3 as he was caught between second and third base.

Butler was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but no dice for the Highlanders as Hrbek struck out swinging in his fifth bases loaded situation on the season.

Radford was able to crack the scoring column in the fourth as Gonzalez led of the frame with a solo home run down the left field line for the Highlanders' third home run of the series.

Only trailing 2-1, Spencer Horwitz reached on a fielding error by the Buccaneers' second baseman and raced first to third on a Roth single up the middle. Richard De la Cruz stepped up the plate with a prime RBI opportunity and no outs in the inning.

De la Cruz gave an 0-1 pitch a ride to center field as his sacrifice fly allowed Horwitz to score from third base, knotting the game 2-2. Baine gave the Highlanders another base runner, reaching on Charleston Southern's second error of the inning. Radford was unable to push across a third run as Wise and Whitacre struck out swinging.

Will Hartsell entered the game in the top of the fifth, allowing a leadoff single to Butler, which was the only hit allowed in his four innings of relief. Hartsell used a Nate Blanchard home run in the bottom half of the inning to give him the lead as the junior pitched relaxed the rest of the way.

Hartsell retired 11 Highlanders in a row after allowing a leadoff single to Butler in the fifth, which included three straight three up, three down frames.

Radford made a late comeback attempt in the ninth as Horwitz led off the inning with a walk. Pinch running for Horwitz at first, Carlin Christian was forced out at second as Roth's sac bunt went straight to the Buccaneer pitcher. Ryan Stoudemire punched out the final two Highlanders to collect his second save on the season as Charleston Southern clinched the series with the 3-2 victory.
