JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Radford picked up its first draw of the 2017 season after ETSU found an equalizer midway through the second half as both teams locked in a 1-1 defensive battle the rest of the way on a rainy night in the Volunteer State.

Sivert Daehlie provided the Highlander goal in the seventh minute, marking the third time on the season that Radford has struck first.

Out of the gate, Fletcher Ekern took two shots and ETSU earned a corner kick in the first five minutes, but Radford made the most of its first opportunity to score in the first half.

Evan Szklennik regained possession of the ball after the Buccaneers cleared it. Szklennik blew past the Bucs' defense, sending a cross from the far side to Daehlie inside the box. Daehlie headed in his third goal of the season from five-yards out to give Radford an early 1-0 lead.

ETSU took seven shots in the half, only managing one shot on frame. The Highlander defense blocked an array of Buc attempts in the opening 45 minutes. Danny Barlow and Ekern took three shots each in the half, but Jeffrey George was the lone Buccaneer to put a ball on frame.

George came up with a ball that bounced off several players, firing a shot from just outside the far side of the box as Nicolas Mertzokat came off his line to make a strong save to start the 39th minute.

Taking only four shots in the half, Radford made the most of its first attempt as the Highlanders looked for their second shutout of the season. However, ETSU found the equalizer in the 56th minute on its first shot of the half. Austin Bihlmeyer sent a ball into Ekern, who fired a shot 10-yards out to the upper right corner to knot the match on his fourth attempt.

For the second straight half, Radford was held to a mere four shots. Daehlie took the first two shots of the half, while Szklennik had two attempts in the final five minutes. The senior got free in the 85th minute, but his shot from the right side of the box was tipped by a diving Jonny Sutherland in goal.

The overtime periods saw both teams play defensively as the Highlanders were the only team to take a shot in the extra 20 minutes. Radford took one shot in the first 10 minutes and two in the final 10 minutes.
