WHITE'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS RADFORD IN 52-33 WIN

GAME INFORMATION
  • Score: Radford 52, Longwood 33
  • Records: Highlanders (10-6, 3-2 Big South) | Lancers (3-13, 1-4 Big South)
  • Location: Willett Hall | Farmville, Va.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford led for almost as long as a team can in a basketball game as the Highlanders scored 23 seconds into the contest, leading for 39:37 in a 52-33 victory over in-state Big South foe Longwood, Tuesday afternoon as Janayla White finished with her 28th career double-double.

White's fifth double-double on the season came in a 12-point, 10-rebound effort to give the senior her second in league play. The 10 rebounds moved White into fourth in program history and 19th in Big South history with 849 career rebounds.

The lone Highlander in double-figures led five players with six-plus points in the contest as Khiana Johnson and Jen Falconer finished with nine points each.

After cold shooting in the opening quarter by both teams that saw a combined 5 for 26 shooting clip, Radford heated up in the second quarter after committing five early turnovers.

Longwood cut into Radford's early 9-2 lead, inching within 9-6 early in the second quarter, which sparked a 16-2 run by the Highlanders. Radford shot 63.6 percent in the quarter, while finishing with a 42.6 field-goal percentage as the Highlanders improved to 7-0 when shooting over 40-percent.

Falconer forced a media timeout with a 3-pointer and Johnson followed with one of her own, pushing the Radford lead to 23-8. Johnson provided five of her nine first half points in the run as the Highlanders went into the locker room leading 25-11.

The Highlanders continued their three-point shooting in the second half as all three field goals in the third quarter came from behind the arc. Claudia Quevedo opened the quarter with her second, while Destinee Walker and Falconer followed with the second of their own.

Adding three free throws in the 10-minute period, Radford held a 37-20 after three quarters of play, holding the Lancers scoreless for a three-minute span.

White's double-double came during fourth-minute stretch in the fourth quarter with six straight points and six rebounds

Making 7 of 15 attempts in the quarter helped push the Highlanders edge as the Lancers went on an 8-0 swing over a 1:13 span in the closing minutes, but Falconer knocked down her third 3-pointer and Walker followed with a layup to close out the 52-33 Highlander victory.

QUOTABLE
  • "This was not a well-played or well-executed game for us. I thought Longwood did a good job with its physicality and scrappiness to make us uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to find ways to win games like this. Any road conference win is going to help with this stretch that we have coming up." ~ Radford head coach Mike McGuire
