ROBINSON'S GOLDEN GOAL GIVES RADFORD THIRD STRAIGHT OT WIN

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's soccer team won its third straight double overtime match and this time it was sophomore forward Dondre' Robinson who played the hero in a 2-1 victory over UNC Asheville at Cupp Stadium.

After the Highlanders (5-6, 3-2 Big South) waited until late in the second overtime period to win each of their last two contests, they took care of business with 7:47 still on the clock on Saturday. Redshirt senior forward Kieran Roberts received the ball in space on the right sideline and spotted Robinson making a run through the box. Robinson finished off a perfect cross with a one-timer into the bottom, left corner of the net to seal the victory.

Radford looked to be in total control early, scoring the go-ahead goal in the seventh minute. Senior midfielder Gonzalo Rodriguez drove straight up the center of the pitch before playing a through ball between two defenders and into the path of senior forward Khori Bennett, who calmly scored with a right-footed shot for his first goal of the year.

The Highlanders continued to dominate possession through the rest of the first half and into the second half, but couldn't quite put the Bulldogs away. UNC Asheville (1-11-2, 0-6 Big South) finally got its chance in the 65th minute when freshman Lane Carroll forced a turnover, turned and fired a shot from 25 yards out that hit the back of the net.

Neither side was able to find the game-winner in regulation and the first overtime came and went without a golden goal. In total, Radford earned a 16-to-8 advantage in shots, including seven on goal compared to just four for the Bulldogs.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

WELCOME TO THE SCORESHEET
Entering Saturday's match, only three Highlanders had scored a goal all season: Amadou Macky Diop (6), Kieran Roberts (5) and Victor Valls (1). That number has nearly doubled now that Bennett and Robinson have tallied their first goals of 2018.

It's the first goal Bennett has scored in a Radford uniform since transferring from Northeastern and it's the second career goal for Robinson. His first came in a 1-1 draw against Longwood on Oct. 25, 2017.

OVERTIME MADNESS
This streak of three straight overtime wins marks the first time Radford has played in three straight overtime matches since Sept. 8 through Sept. 16, 2012. That year the Highlanders went 0-2-1 during that stretch, but they are 3-0 in such games this season.

SUPERIOR CONDITIONING
Head Coach Bryheem Hancock felt confident in his team's conditioning and several players showed why. Sam Farrell, Kieran Roberts, Leon Birke, Michael Walsh, Myles Yorke and Benjamin Thiss all played the full 102+ minutes in the match.

AROUND THE BIG SOUTH
Longwood 2, Gardner-Webb 0
Winthrop 1, Campbell 0
USC Upstate 3, Presbyterian 0

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will stay in the Commonwealth and head to Charlottesville to take on nationally-ranked Virginia. The Cavaliers upset #5 Denver just this past week.

The game is set for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
