RADFORD FALLS IN CLOSE MATCH WITH #6 VIRGINIA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's soccer team went stride-for-stride with No. 6 Virginia, but ultimately fell, 2-1, at Klöckner Stadium on Tuesday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the 63rd minute, senior midfielder Gonzalo Rodriguez got the Highlanders (5-7, 3-2 Big South) right back in the match with his first goal of the season. The Coustituciou, Chile native fired a low shot from 25 yards out that rolled along the grass and into the bottom, left corner of the net.

Virginia (9-1-2, 3-1-1 ACC) answered swiftly though, scoring the game-winning goal just one minute later. Simeon Okoro latched onto a bouncing pass from Nathaniel Crofts and found the back of the net. The Cavaliers played a very defensive game from that point on, refusing the Highlanders much possession or many quality chances until the match ended.

Okoro was involved in the first goal of the game as well. After a scoreless first half, Okoro raced down the right side of the field and hit a driven cross into the six-yard box where Daryl Dike managed to get a foot on the pass and score a sliding goal in the 59th minute.

It was yet another physical match for Radford, who was called for 17 fouls and received four yellow cards on the night. UVA was whistled for 13 fouls and was on the receiving end of one yellow card as well. Radford's Victor Valls got the worst of it, receiving a straight red card with only 34 seconds remaining.
