BAREFORD ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF PIERRE-OLIVIER LASSALLE TO MEN'S TENNIS PROGRAM

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's tennis program added yet another difference-making student-athlete on Friday when Head Coach Rob Bareford announced the signing of Pierre-Olivier "PO" Lassalle.

"PO has been around high quality tennis and coaching his entire life and it shows in his game," said Bareford. "He is an exceptional student and player. We can't wait to have him join the squad in January!"

A native of Corneilhan, France, Lassalle began playing tennis at the age of four and has won over 100 junior and senior regional tournaments. He has gained experience playing in the Languedoc Roussillon League in the National Championships, been selected for the Individual Championnat of France and become the Vice Regional Champion three times.

Much of that success can be attributed to his time training under Mickael Sopel, the Youngstown State University Head Tennis Coach, as well as Francis Gasquet who is the father of Richard Gasquet, the 26th-ranked player in the world.

Lassalle has trained at academies in Barcelona, Spain and in the United States in Boca Raton, Fla. as well. At this point in his career, he has earned a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 12.24.

"I chose Radford University because I has a good feeling about Coach Bareford," noted Lassalle on his decision to become a Highlander.

When he arrives in January, Lassalle will join Andres Silva and Yevhen Sirous whose additions were officially announced last month.

The Highlanders kick off the 2019 spring season on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they host North Carolina A&T for a Noon match. Radford will host the Big South Championships this season from April 17 to April 20. All nine conference teams will make the tournament and will be seeded based on their records against Big South opponents in the regular season.
