ELON, N.C. – Radford recorded six hits in the first three innings for a 1-0 lead, however Elon scored two unanswered and limted the Highlanders to only three base runners in the final six frames en route to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night in the first midweek game on the season.

After pumping out 25 hits for 26 runs in the first two games of the season, Radford's offense has been limted to 10 hits and three runs in the last two games.

Radford (2-2) drew first blood in the top of the third with an RBI single from Colby Higgerson that scored Kyle Butler. Butler reached on a one-out single and swiped second putting himself in scoring position. After a Highlander strikeout and walk, Higgerson stepped in and did the damage. One run was all Radford would manage as a Garrett Matheny fly out to center field ended the inning, stranding two on base.

Elon answered in the bottom half of the inning as Zach Evers scored on a two-out throwing error by Higgerson. The Phoenix scored the go-ahead run on a single up the middle that plated Hayden Platt, who reached on a leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth inning. However, two strikeouts from Austin Gerber ended the inning, leaving runners on first and second base.

Relieving starter Mason Daniels after three frames, Robbie Welhaf (1-1) shutout the Highlanders over the next six innings, yielding only a walk and a hit. Welhalf entered the game with a 94.50 ERA as he allowed seven earned runs in 0.2 innings against Penn State over the weekend.

Welhalf bounced back as he recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts, including the first four batters he faced.

Radford's lone hit after the first three innings came on a Carlin Christian single in the top of the ninth. The Highlanders only runner in scoring positon during the span came in the fifth when Butler was hit by a pitch to start the inning, advancing to second on a balk.

A pitching staff day for Radford saw seven different players on the mound. Andrew Nardi (0-1) suffered the loss after 0.1 innings pitched, Nardi gave up the Platt leadoff double in the sixth, which resulted in the go-ahead run allowed.
