WHITE MAKES BIG SOUTH HISTORY WITH 81-39 WIN OVER LONGWOOD

RADFORD, Va. – For the second consecutive game, Radford collected a 40-point victory as the Highlanders improved their winning streak to seven straight in an 81-39 thrashing of Longwood, Tuesday night inside the Dedmon Center.
 
The Highlanders defeated Winthrop 70-30 for a 40-point victory on Saturday, following that win up with a 42-point edge over the Lancers in the final home weekday game of the season. On the season, Radford has five victories decided by 25-plus points, including three wins by 35-plus points in Big South play.
 
With the win, Radford has now won 11 out of its last 12 games, while shooting over 60-percent for the second time on the season as the Highlanders finished with a 61.5 field goal percentage.
 
The Highlanders made 32 of 52 attempts with senior forward Janayla White aiding the efforts with a 12 for 12 performance from the field for a career-high 26 points. White has tallied 20-point games in two out of the last three games, while picking up her ninth double-double on the season with 11 rebounds.
 
The perfect shooting performance etches White's name into the Radford record books once again as she is the second women's basketball player in program history to be perfect in double-digit field goal attempts.
 
The previous record for most field goals made while being perfect belonged to Stephanie Howard. Howard was 10 for 10 against Charleston Southern on Feb. 10, 1988. The two performances are Big South records for highest field goal percentage in a game, while White has the record for most perfect field goals made.
 
White led Radford with four players in double-figures as Destinee Walker finished with 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting and Jayda Worthy chipped in 14 on 6 of 10 shooting. Khiana Johnson added 13 points off the bench, finishing 6 for 6 from the charity stripe.
 
Radford has placed four in double-figures eight times on the season as five have come in Big South play.
 
After leading only 12-9 after the first 10 minutes of play, Radford outscored Longwood 69-30 in the final three quarters. The Highlanders raced out to an early 6-0 lead, which forced a Lancer timeout. Longwood battled back with a 6-0 swing, knotting the game 9-9 at the 1:49 mark in the opening quarter.
 
After the tie, Radford rattled off 12 straight points for a 29-4 run, building a 38-13 lead with just under a minute remaining in the first half. The Highlanders tallied 28 points on 12 of 19 shooting in the second quarter to lead 40-17 at halftime. The Highlanders scored 18 of its 28 second quarter points in the paint.
 
White was 6 of 6 for 14 points in the first half, while going 6 for 6 in the second half resulting in 12 points.
 
Only making seven field goals in the opening half, Longwood made five in the third quarter for 10 points as Radford only held a 18-10 edge in the quarter.
 
Radford did not take its foot off the gas in the fourth quarter, making 10 of 13 attempts as six different Highlanders scored. Of Radford's 23 points in the quarter, 16 came in the paint. The Highlanders final point total in the paint finished at 50 points.
 
The 42-point victory was highlighted by Radford's play in the paint, while also scoring 20 points in transition and turning 17 Longwood miscues into 25 points.

  • Radford is 28-4 in the last 58 games when holding opposing teams under 60 points, including a 16-1 mark on the season.
  • Radford has held 11 teams under 50 points on the season, improving to 10-1. Of those 10 games, six have come in Big South play.
